Tesla has expanded its Cybertruck lineup with the introduction of the Long Range Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) variant. This model is designed for consumers who primarily value range and efficiency.
The latest model was introduced through the firm’s X platform, emphasizing efficiency and range. When fitted with the 18-inch standard wheels, it provides an impressive 350 miles per charge, marking a 40% improvement over the former 250-mile limit.
The Long Range Rear-Wheel-Drive (RWD) sets itself apart due to its extended range when compared to both its twin-motor All Wheel Drive (AWD) and triple-motor Cyberbeast equivalents.
Specifically, it reaches 350 miles, outperforming the AWD’s 325 miles and the Cyberbeast’s 320 miles.
Quick charging along with extended range
Charging efficiency
Also, a prominent aspect of the updated model is the Long Range RWD variant, which has the capability to add approximately 147 miles of additional range with just 15 minutes of charging at a Supercharger station.
As a result, it marginally surpassed the AWD’s 137-mile range and the Cyberbeast’s 135-mile range.
In technical terms, the Long Range RWD has a rear-wheel-drive setup, setting it apart from the all-wheel-drive versions.
Additionally, it provides a tow rating of 7,500 pounds and can carry up to 2,006 pounds as cargo. The updated Cybertruck asserts that it will go from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 6.2 seconds.
The outside design features a 6-foot by 4-foot bed, regular headlights, bedside lights, and taillights.
A removable soft tonneau cover can be added optionally to the updated version, according to Tesla, enhancing its range by approximately 12 miles. It’s worth noting that the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant does not include the 120V and 240V electrical outlets present in both the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) configuration and the Cyberbeast truck bed and interior.
A cheaper Cybertruck model
Inside, the car features fabric seats along with a tactical grey interior. As stated
reports
The cabin includes front heated seats as well as a standard console.
The vehicle does not come with a 9.4-inch screen for the second row, and its sound system includes only seven speakers lacking active noise cancelation.
Meanwhile, the suspension system employs an adaptive coil spring setup, which differs from the adaptive air suspension used in the AWD and Cyberbeast models. This results in the Long Range RWD lacking adjustable ride height.
The Cybertruck Long Range RWD is priced starting at $69,990, with potential federal tax credits bringing the effective price down to $62,490.
Compared to this, the dual-motor Cybertruck Long Range All-Wheel Drive model comes with a price tag of $79,990, while the pinnacle of their lineup, the Cyberbeast, starts at $99,990, excluding any incentives.
Heightened rivalry between Tesla and BYD
Tesla revealed the Cybertruck Long Range just a few days after China’s automobile giant BYD launched two new EV models equipped with superfast charging technology.
BYD has introduced
two new electric vehicles
, the Han L sedan and the Tang L SUV, which feature their newly developed Megawatt-class ultra-fast charging system that offers power levels exceeding twice that of many current US high-speed chargers.
The company states that their new electric vehicles can travel up to 250 miles after just a 5-minute recharge.
