Sony Raises PlayStation 5 Prices in Europe, UK, and Australia: International Edition

Sony announced that it will increase prices for certain PlayStation 5 gaming systems beginning Monday in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, due to worldwide economic upheaval.

The firm announced price increases of at least 10%, stating it was a “difficult choice” due to the “challenging economic conditions,” which include soaring inflation and unstable currency values.

According to a post on the official PlayStation blog on Sunday, the suggested retail price for the PS5 Digital Edition will increase to €499 ($570) across Europe. This represents an uptick from the previous announcement of €449 made in 2022.

In the UK, the updated cost will be £430 ($565), an increase from the previous rate of £389. In Australia, the pricing will go up to AUD$749 ($474) from AUD$649. For New Zealand customers, the price will climb to NZD$859 ($504).

The PS5 Digital Edition is a more compact variant of the console that lacks a disc drive.

Sony announced that the pricing for both the standard PlayStation 5, featuring a Blu-ray disc drive and launched in 2020, and the PS5 Pro model, introduced last year, will stay the same across Europe and the U.K.

Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to levy tariffs on countries worldwide disrupted global manufacturing supply chains. Over the weekend, news broke that imports such as smartphones and laptops have been granted a short-term exemption until the administration develops a targeted tariff strategy specifically for the semiconductor sector, further complicating matters for exporters.
