Is now manufactured at a new facility in Georgia, freeing them from the recent tariffs imposed on imported vehicles. This also renders them qualified for the federal tax incentive for buying electric cars. Currently, they qualify for $3,750, however, Hyundai mentions that it will shortly achieve the complete $7,500 benefit. Until then, the company is providing an equivalent discount.
President Trump has suggested providing a tax break for interest payments on loans for domestically produced cars, which might further benefit the Ioniq 5.

The Ioniq 5 XRT is designed as an off-roading variant inspired by rally cars. Priced at $56,975, this model features 18-inch wheels fitted with Continental CrossContact all-terrain tires. It has a specially adjusted suspension ideal for rugged terrain, which raises its ground clearance to approximately seven inches—an increase of around one inch from standard models. Additionally, it includes redesigned bumper covers coated in unpainted protective cladding along with front-mounted recovery hooks.
The all-wheel-drive setup delivers 320 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque, with an 84-kWh battery providing an EPA-estimated range of 259 miles per charge. For acceleration over a brief stretch on paved roads, the XRT can go from zero to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds.
The Ioniq 5 arrives from the manufacturer equipped with a Tesla-style NACS charger and works seamlessly with the latest Tesla Supercharger stations via the Tesla application. Additionally, an adapter for CCS rapid-charging stations is provided. At top-tier chargers, the XRT can reach 80% battery capacity in roughly 20 minutes. Using a Supercharger takes approximately 30 minutes; however, future software updates might reduce this time at certain sites.
The XRT comes equipped with all-weather floor mats and easy-to-maintain H-Tex synthetic upholstery, perfectly suited for its purpose. For the 2025 model year, every domestically produced Ioniq 5 series receives an update featuring a continuous display uniting the instrument panel and infotainment system, as well as revamped controls for sound and temperature regulation. Inside, the vehicle offers ample space and comfort throughout both seating rows thanks to its level flooring and sliding central console at the front. A distinguishing characteristic of the XRT is a Terrain Mode control located on one of the spokes below the steering wheel; this allows drivers to select configurations optimized for various terrains such as snow, mud, and sand. During my time with the car, we explored sandy conditions specifically.
Despite having increased ground clearance, the XRT remains primarily designed as a dirt road vehicle rather than a rock climber, though it can manage substantial obstacles well. While the shock absorbers are not specialized off-road components like those found on rugged terrain vehicles, they utilize standard Ioniqu 5 parts that have been adjusted for unpaved surfaces and perform impressively. Protection beneath the car is confined to the inherent shield provided by the battery pack.
The tires and traction control system function seamlessly together. Even when using the standard driving mode set to its sportiest option, you can easily handle the car with the gas pedal on slick roads and achieve controlled drifting from the rear end.
The car is exhilarating like this, and although many lament the quietness of electric sports cars, it becomes quite advantageous when you’re out in the wilderness. Neither the animals nor the local residents will be disturbed by your antics.

The XRT’s tire and suspension setup is also great for bad city streets and it laughs at most potholes, so it may pay advantages even if you never venture off-pavement. Despite being pricey, it is on par with other high end Ioniq 5 trims and comes loaded with premium features like a climate controlled massaging driver’s seat, a killer Bose audio system and Hyundai’s top-notch Highway Driving Assist 2 lane-centering adaptive cruise control.
Despite how enjoyable the Ioniq 5 N may be, it comes at a price of $67,675, retains an outdated cabin design, and truly requires a racetrack with smooth pavement for optimal performance. Conversely, finding pleasure in the XRT seems more straightforward, without concerns over physical strain or daily wear from commuting.
