The MTN Foundation has initiated the application process for its 2025 scholarship program, reinforcing their commitment to bolstering STEM education, promoting academic achievement, and enhancing diversity and inclusivity by supporting visually impaired students in Nigeria.
Each year, this program provides three types of scholarships: the Science and Technology Scholarship (STS), the MTN Scholarship for Visually Impaired Students (SVIS), and the Top 10 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Scholarship. The STS is designed for third-year science and technology students who have achieved at least a Second Class Upper division or an equivalent cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.5. SVIS supports second-year visually impaired students with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or its equivalent. Candidates ranked among the top ten scores in the UTME, as declared by JAMB, will receive automatic acceptance into the MTN Foundation’s Top 10 UTME Scholarship.
The MTN Foundation stated that, as part of their continuous commitment to education, they have granted 14,728 scholarships totaling over NGN3 billion throughout the last fifteen years. These scholarship recipients gain access to opportunities for developing essential skills and hands-on expertise needed to succeed in the rapidly changing employment landscape.
Discussing the effects of the scholarship program, the Executive Director of the MTN Foundation, Odunayo Sanya, stated: “Education forms the foundation of national progress, and at the MTN Foundation, our aim is to guarantee that no talented individual misses out on opportunities because they lack funds. Providing this scholarship goes beyond supporting students financially—it’s an investment in Nigeria’s upcoming leaders, creators, and solution-seekers.”
Starting in 2024, the MTN Foundation boosted the annual scholarship prize from NGN200,000 to NGN300,000 per recipient over three consecutive years leading up to their graduation, as long as they uphold the necessary GPA standards. This scholarship initiative also includes extensive components such as mentoring, internships, and digital certifications.
