MTN and Meta Team Up to Boost Voice and Video Call Quality Across Africa

To significantly boost user satisfaction, MTN Group, which is Africa’s premier telecommunications company, has joined forces with Meta to upgrade the quality and dependability of voice and video calls on instant messaging apps like WhatsApp in 12 different MTN regions.

Through the optimization of application-aware networks and network-conscious applications, this effort seeks to provide a smoother, more reliable, and higher quality user experience. By working together, they aim to enhance live call experiences in 12 regions by identifying key improvement zones and implementing targeted actions.

Following the MWC 2024 event, the teams from MTN and Meta have joined forces to pinpoint critical areas needing enhancement and execute specific network improvements aimed at boosting the performance of mobile networks when used with real-time call apps without compromising effective traffic handling. Utilizing data analysis tools and rigorous testing procedures, these efforts have led to the development and deployment of innovative solutions that markedly improve user satisfaction across various devices.

The initial rollout of these enhancements took place in Nigeria, where preliminary data indicates significant advancements in crucial performance metrics (KPIs). These include a substantial 50% enhancement, which has resulted in an improved user experience for MTN Nigeria’s mobile subscribers.

“This implementation further demonstrates our commitment to enhancing our customers’ digital experience. We’re pleased with the remarkable improvement in our real-time communication services, reflecting our commitment to innovative customer solutions,” said Yahaya Ibrahim, CTO at MTN Nigeria.

“The partnership enables us to implement cutting-edge solutions for exceptional real-time experiences in Nigeria, demonstrating our commitment to enhancing service quality and boosting user satisfaction, all while pursuing ongoing improvements in traffic delivery,” said Diego Marí, who leads Network Ecosystems Engineering at Meta.
