Morocco’s PM at GITEX Africa 2025: Africa’s Leadership in AI Revolution Needed, Not Just Participation

At the inauguration of GITEX Africa 2025, Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch reiterated his nation’s firm dedication to international dialogues about artificial intelligence. He highlighted the importance of adopting an ethical, inclusive, and well-regulated framework.

He stressed the significance of making sure AI upholds human rights, protects individual information, and benefits societal welfare as a whole.

The current year’s iteration of GITEX Africa, taking place from April 14 to 16 in Marrakesh, occurs during a pivotal moment as artificial intelligence increasingly influences economies, governmental organizations, and societal frameworks worldwide.

Akhannouch characterized the event as a crucial innovation center for Africa, a platform for sharing ideas, fostering ambitions, and aligning initiatives within the expanding digital landscape of the continent.

In response to the increasing threats from cyberattacks and immoral digital activities, Akhannouch urged for immediate shared consideration on enhancing data protection and safeguarding essential infrastructure.

He emphasized that Africa needs to progress from merely receiving technological innovations to becoming a crucial, proactive, and significant contributor in the worldwide digital sphere.

Under King Mohammed VI’s guidance, Akhannouch emphasized Morocco’s dedication to digital transformation via the Digital Morocco 2030 initiative.

He stated that the nation has made significant progress toward becoming a leading force in digital technology within the region. This includes entering into key partnerships with major international tech firms, developing financial initiatives aimed at supporting new businesses, encouraging advanced services for external clients, and implementing policy changes designed to foster creativity and increase young enterprises’ opportunities to secure government work.

Akhannouch likewise highlighted the importance of enhancing digital infrastructure throughout the continent, with particular emphasis on broadening internet accessibility in rural regions and channeling resources into cultivating African expertise in artificial intelligence and data science.

He ended his speech by describing GITEX Africa as a convergence zone between the current state and upcoming advancements, providing an essential stage for African creators to mold a cooperative and powerful digital era. “We have moved past merely admiring technological prowess,” he stated. “It’s now about taking action, fostering cooperation, and wielding influence.”
