- Hyundai engineers have been spotted conducting tests on an electric version of the Staria MPV.
- The electric minivan might feature a 84 kWh battery and offer more than 205 miles of electric range.
- The Staria was unveiled in 2021 and is presently offered with both internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid options.
Featuring its science fiction-inspired visage, Hyundai’s
Staria
It appeared as though it was a minivan straight out of 2031 when it launched in 2021. While the image didn’t include an electric powertrain, these espionage photos reveal that this will not remain so for long.
Our photography crew captured an early version of the Staria.

Wearing German license plates and being tested on European roads, the test van sported a dual camouflage. This included a striking wrapping around the vehicle along with Hyundai’s typical assortment of black nylon covers at both the front and rear sections.

Given that most of the Staria is heavily concealed, it’s challenging to determine what the electric vehicle will ultimately look like. However, this wouldn’t pose much difficulty if we hadn’t already gotten a full glimpse of the entire car earlier this year when it was spotted uncovered in a Korean parking lot.

‘s new EV will ditch the current Staria’s giant black grille for more painted plastic, but leave an ugly rectangular cooling slot in the center and two more rectangular vents below. I don’t know about you, but I think the 2021 model with its jumbo grille is a far better looking machine.
We haven’t yet learned specifics regarding the battery and powertrain configuration; however, we do have preliminary insights into what to anticipate, thanks to the Staria-based ST1 box van and chassis cab along with its badge-engineered counterpart, the
Iveco Moody
The Moody features a lone electric engine producing 215 horsepower (160 kilowatts / 218PS) and 350 Newton-meters (258 pound-feet) of torque. It offers either a 63-kilowatt-hour battery or a 76-kWh unit; the higher capacity option provides a WLTP-estimated range of 320 kilometers (199 miles).
We’d be amazed if the Staria failed to enhance both the
battery
With the aid of the Ioniq’s 84 kWh battery pack, both capacity and range can be maintained while keeping the V2L functionality and 800-volt tech for rapid charging. When connected to a 350 kW charger, the Moody is capable of adding an additional 62 miles (100 kilometers) of range within just 10 minutes.
The Staria EV is scheduled for unveiling later this year, but in the meantime, purchasers can choose between a 3.5-liter V6, a 1.6-liter hybrid, or a 2.2-liter diesel engine option.
