HP Urges Nigerian Government: Invest in AI for Job Creation and Boost Productivity

HP has urged Nigerian leaders to significantly increase investment in artificial intelligence as part of their efforts to enhance employment opportunities and overall economic efficiency within the country.

A statement signed by Yesh Surjoodeen, the Southern Africa Managing Director at HP, which was provided to PUNCH Online on Monday, noted that AI’s influence in Nigeria goes further than just enhancing communication; it acts as a driving force for productivity, inclusiveness, and better employee well-being.

He states that Nigeria’s artificial intelligence sector is seeing substantial expansion, fueled by creativity and teamwork across the field. He highlights that via the Nigerian AI Collective, NITDA encourages partnership between AI experts, scholars, and business leaders, facilitating the sharing of knowledge and top-tier strategies.

Moreover, the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics operated by NITDA significantly contributes to the progress of research and development in cutting-edge technologies, emphasizing pragmatic approaches to tackle national issues.

“Moreover, the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (2020-2030) presents a visionary plan for transforming Nigeria’s economy through the use of digital technologies such as AI, aiming to boost employment opportunities and increase overall national productivity,” stated Surjoodeen.

Based on HP’s Work Relationship Index, a majority of knowledge workers (69%), business leaders (77%), and IT decision-makers (76%) concur that an individually customized work experience driven by artificial intelligence enhances general job contentment.

The statement indicated that AI tools have demonstrated effectiveness in streamlining work processes, allowing employees to concentrate on duties that necessitate their skills and innovative abilities.

In this scenario, AI serves as more than just a tool for enhancing business efficiency; it is also a crucial factor in boosting job satisfaction.

The Nigerian government acknowledges the potential of artificial intelligence to foster innovation and boost economic development. Introduced in 2024, the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy establishes the foundation necessary for extensive implementation of AI.

“The framework aims at enabling companies to discover new prospects, boost productivity, and generate employment, especially within industries where AI can address practical problems,” according to the statement.

The statement further indicated that AI facilitates a connection between imagination and realization, enhancing profound interactions and more substantial involvement within groups.

Think about data scientists working on building AI models; they frequently encounter substantial challenges. Disjointed tools make the development process more complicated, causing teams to operate within separate environments that hinder teamwork. Insufficient computing power adds another layer of difficulty, as nearly half of all AI initiatives now confront roadblocks due to resource limitations.

To conquer these obstacles, AI creators can now find all necessary tools and frameworks within a single integrated platform. In mere minutes, they can initiate joint ventures, effortlessly link up with their datasets, and add contributors with only two clicks. Similar to how shared documents have transformed teamwork, this consolidated method allows developers to collaborate through one cohesive interface, simplifying and enhancing model development.

Surjoodeen suggests that moving forward, AI-powered computers will remain essential for promoting environmental sustainability through the adoption of more energy-efficient technologies and facilitating better resource management.

These improvements will enable companies to decrease their environmental impact while sustaining top-notch performance, productivity, and security.

“In this age of artificial intelligence, businesses must reconsider their operational methods. Since routine duties can now be automated, efforts will shift toward more strategic and significant activities. Consequently, work could become more satisfying, efficient, productive, cooperative, and finely tuned. In essence, this might just allow us to find deeper enjoyment in our professional lives,” he concluded.
