EcoFlow’s New Glacier Fridge and Wave A/C: Promising Successors Emerge

EcoFlow has recently unveiled enhanced editions of its products.
Glacier refrigerator-freezer combo
and
Wave air conditioner-heater combo
, two solar-charged devices that operate without grid power.

The
Wave 3
It has greater power than its precursor, allowing it to heat and cool bigger areas compared to the previous model.
I examined Wave 2 during the previous summer.
However, with 6100 BTUs (1800 watts) for cooling and 6800 BTUs (2000 watts) for heating, we’re referring to compact spaces like small RVs, tents, boats, and perhaps just a tiny bedroom from an apparatus that manages to be far more effective than one might expect based solely on its size. The intake and exhaust hoses have been insulated, potentially enhancing performance even further.

Even more effective than previously, with enhancements made to water drainage as well.

The Wave 3 offers multiple power options: you can use a swappable 1024Wh lithium-iron phosphate battery providing approximately eight hours of operation, plug into an AC wall socket, or connect via a 12V/24V vehicle adapter.

, or approximately 400 watts of solar panels. According to EcoFlow, it can reduce the temperature by “as much as 15 degrees Fahrenheit” within 15 minutes in spaces up to 183 square feet. Currently, I am assessing how significantly the phrase “up to” affects EcoFlow’s assertion for an upcoming review.

The top-tier EcoFlow app simplifies accessing various handy new functions on your WiFi (or Bluetooth)-connected Wave 3 even when you’re away from the unit. Features like turning on a dehumidifying function to lower humidity and engaging an auto-mode to keep the temperature stable within specified limits are now at your fingertips. Additionally, there’s a novel pet mode designed to notify owners via alert and activate the air conditioner should temperatures exceed 77°F. The package includes window decals provided by EcoFlow intended to ease concerns for passersby who may fret over pets potentially overheating in a parked car.

The
Glacier Classic
, meanwhile, has removed the ice maker from the
The original version I examined in 2023
To concentrate on increasing interior space—which I wholeheartedly support—given that these 12V refrigerators are designed for use in areas with limited access to water and power. In this manner, the Glacier Classic manages to accommodate 45 liters of dual-zone storage within approximately the same dimensions as the original model which holds 38 liters. Additionally, it comes in 35-liter and 55-liter versions; however, the smaller one functions solely as a freezer or refrigerator without the possibility of adding a dual-zone partition.

Each of the three refrigerator models comes with an integrated 298Wh battery that provides up to 43 hours of cooling time, as claimed by the manufacturer. This battery can be charged via a regular household plug, a 12V/24V vehicle socket, or through 110 watts of solar power. Additionally, the Glacier Classic model includes a double-hinged lid design, which allows easier access when space is limited, such as within a van or boat.

EcoFlow claims that the Glacier Classic employs a more dependable temperature sensor to maintain consistent performance. This is crucial.

Of the initial setup at Glacier, they had to swap out their units because the sensors became uncontrollable and froze all internal operations. Whoops!

The
Glacier Classic
The price will be listed at $799 for 35 liters, $899 for 45 liters, and $1,199 for 55 liters in the U.S., with early bird discounts reducing these to $699, $799, and $899 respectively. Preorders can be made beginning today.

The
Wave 3
With the included battery, the price drops to $1,299 during pre-order ($2,198 as listed), whereas the Wave 3 without a battery is available for $749 ($1,299 when not on sale). Adding an extra battery will cost you $599 instead of the usual $899. These prices remain high even with early bird discounts, which run until May 25th; hence, I am putting significant effort into publishing my review before then.
