In the footage, you can observe the trooper moving towards Robin Rae Budelli, 41, as she walked along the shoulder of westbound Interstate 10 near Park Avenue.

Budelli from Tucson swiftly drew a big kitchen knife from her handbag and rushed towards the officer, prompting him to fire.

Whenever there’s a pedestrian beside the road, there’s always a chance someone might accidentally hit them,” Sergeant Eric Andrews with DPS stated. “This occurs due to the fact that such occurrences aren’t typical for drivers, who may inadvertently cause accidents involving pedestrians. This could include situations where individuals are undergoing a mental health emergency; however, at present, we do not possess all the details about these incidents. Nonetheless, an investigation is ongoing. Clearly though, anytime you encounter a pedestrian or another unforeseen obstacle on the street, safety becomes a concern.

The soldier, unharmed himself, assisted Budelli; however, she was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.

The inquiry is still underway, with additional details to be disclosed at a future time.
