BYD’s Lightning-Fast Z9 GT: A 3.4-Second Electric Feast Revealed

On April 9, BYD revealed during the Brera Design Week that it plans to introduce its Denza brand in Europe, marking a comprehensive push into the area’s high-end automotive sector.

Denza is a high-end brand initially created via a partnership between BYD and Mercedes-Benz. Following Mercedes-Benz’s sale of its entire stake in July 2024, BYD has become the sole owner with 100% control over the brand.

The initial model from this brand set to launch in Europe will be the Denza Z9 GT, an extensive electric car measuring more than five meters long. It was designed under the leadership of Wolfgang Egger, who previously served as the top designer at Audi. The automobile boasts elegant headlamp designs and side rocker panel features alongside distinctive taillight patterns, emphasizing its assertive yet opulent appearance.

The Z9 GT features a triple motor system capable of producing up to 952 horsepower. This allows it to go from zero to 60 mph in merely 3.4 seconds. According to the CLTC standards, the vehicle has an impressive driving range of 1,101 kilometers on a single charge.

BYD intends to enhance specific aspects of the Denza Z9 GT to better align with the demands of the European market, with the formal unveiling set for later this year’s fourth quarter. The next vehicle debuting under the Denza label will be the D9, which is a plug-in hybrid minivan.

In the meantime, BYD is broadening its presence in Europe as well. The firm intends to launch an array of models this year in Switzerland, featuring vehicles such as the Seal, Sea Lion 07, and Song Plus DM-i.
