Legal proceedings in the U.S. could result in Meta being compelled to divest itself of the social media platform Instagram.
According to the publication,
Meta
is alleged to have eliminated competitors through acquisitions
Instagram
in 2012 and
WhatsApp
In 2014, this led to a monopolistic situation. Despite the approval of these deals by the U.S. regulatory body, the Federal Trade Commission, during their implementation, officials from the FTC cautioned that they would keep an eye on the consequences of the merger.
The trial is anticipated to continue for several weeks, with
Zuckerberg
and
Sheryl Sandberg,
Meta’s COO is scheduled to appear in court.
The company’s spokespersons have previously expressed their confidence in winning the legal battle and criticized the U.S. regulatory body for lacking consistency. As a reminder, even though the relationship between the parties was quite tense,
Trump
and
Zuckerberg
as happened earlier, the leader of
Meta
contributed one million dollars to
Trump’s
initial fund following his win in the November 2024 elections.
