On Monday, Nvidia revealed its intentions to manufacture high-performance AI supercomputing chips exclusively within the United States for the first time.
Supercomputers are under construction in Texas through collaborations with Foxconn and Wistron. The production is anticipated to increase significantly within the coming 12 to 15 months, as stated by the firm based in Silicon Valley.
TSMC facilities in Arizona have commenced production of Nvidia’s top-tier GPU known as Blackwell, according to an additional statement from Nvidia.
“For the first time, the engines powering the global AI infrastructure are being constructed in the United States,” stated Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in the blog post.
“Adding American manufacturing helps us better meet the incredible and growing demand for AI chips and supercomputers, strengthens our supply chain and boosts our resiliency.”
By partnering with companies like TSMC, Foxconn, Wistron, Amkor, and SPIL, Nvidia aims to generate up to $500 billion in AI-related infrastructure within the U.S. borders before the end of the current decade.
The White House stated that relocating these industries back to America benefits American workers, strengthens the U.S. economy, and enhances national security.
The U.S. government has tightened restrictions on exporting advanced AI chips to China because of national security worries, and maintaining domestic manufacturing may enable better control over both the designs and the end products.
Currently, chips are likely to become entangled in a trade dispute between the United States and China.
On Sunday, during his time aboard Air Force One, President Trump stated that tariffs on semiconductors — essential components for critical technologies ranging from electric vehicles and iPhones to missile systems — will soon be implemented.
Trump restated his desire to produce our chips, semiconductors, and other items domestically.
The U.S. president stated that he would unveil tariff rates for semiconductors within the coming week, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick mentioned that these tariffs would probably come into effect “in one or two months.”
